Check out the unsettling trailer for the upcoming psychological horror film Hereditary, from the production powerhouse A24 films.
The film follows a family that begins to experience sinister, supernatural events after the death of their grandmother.
The film looks like a cross between The Exorcist (1973), Repulsion (1965), The Babadook (2014) and all those great films that full under the psychological horror banner.
The trailer doesn’t give too much away, rather just hinting at the fact that the film’s protagonists may slowly be losing their minds since the death of their grandmother, or there may be a supernatural force at play.
Hereditary looks like it will be one of those slow-burn horrors that will keep you guessing until the very end, which often features a shocking climax, which may or may not answer whatever questions you had.
It’s the perfect formula for a psychological film, and while it doesn’t seem like the film is bringing anything new to the table, rest assured we should be in for some quality viewing as it’s coming from production house A24.
A24 have been on a roll the last few years, producing some amazing films in the horror (and non-horror) genre.
Such films include last year’s The Disaster Artist, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Good Time, A Ghost Story and It Comes at Night.
That’s five outstanding films in one year – not bad for a small production company (small when compared to Disney anyway!).
The film is directed by first-time director Ari Aster and stars Australia’s own Toni Collette, along with Gabriel Byrne, Milly Shapiro, Alex Wolff and Ann Dowd.
Check out the trailer below, and if you’re a fan of unsettling horrors, be sure to check out this list of ten slow-burn horror films after that.
Hereditary releases across US cinemas on 8 June 2018.
