Check out this cool featurette about the scoring of the hit drama film Moonlight, which gives us an insight into the ideas behind the film’s music.
The video below features the film’s director Barry Jenkins talk about the themes behind the film’s score, and how it ties in to the emotional state of the film’s lead character.
It appears the film’s composer Nicholas Britell has hit the mark with this method and his music, as it seems to suit the tone of the film perfectly.
Moonlight has received rave reviews from critics and was recently nominated for 8 Academy Awards, which include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor/Actress and Best Cinematography.
The film does have some heavy competition at the awards though, with Damien Chazelle’s La La Land leading the charge with 14 nominations.
However, from what I’ve heard about this film, it certainly sounds like it has a strong chance to take home some gold at the prestigious Academy Awards.
Moonlight stars Duan Sanderson, Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris and Shariff Earp, and is directed by Barry Jenkins.
The film is screening in cinemas across Australia now, and you can read our own Bailey Steen’s review of the film here.
