The new trailer for the Peter Jackson-produced Mortal Engines focuses on the film’s plot along with a better look at its ambitious scale.
Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar) is on the run from the villainous Thaddeus Valentine (Hugo Weaving) – the man who killed Hester’s mother some years prior after she discovered ‘something’ that Valentine was after.
The ‘something’ I’m referring to isn’t explained in this new trailer, but we can see that it’s some type ancient book, but could also just be the film’s MacGuffin to set up the plot.
Mortal Engines is set in what looks like a post-apocalyptic, futuristic steampunk world, where Earth’s cities are now contained on giant rolling machines.
London, being the largest and most devastating of all the cities is where Valentine resides and from where Hester escapes, with the help of the mysterious Anna Fang (Jihae).
There’s a lot to absorb in the world created here by Peter Jackson and his production team, especially with the film’s novel approach to its setting.
It does, however, look like it will be a lot of fun and a nice addition to the fantasy-epic landscape.
Mortal Engines is based on the first of four novels by author Philip Reeve, so there’s potential for a series of films if this one does well at the box office.
The film also stars Robert Sheehan and Stephen Lang and is directed by Christian Rivers.
It hits cinemas on 6 December 2018, check out the new trailer below!
