Tom Cruise aka Maverick’s need for speed never dies as witnessed in the first trailer for the highly anticipated Top Gun: Maverick.
Maverick (Cruise) is back reprising one of his most iconic roles in this sequel to 1986’s Top Gun.
The first trailer for the film sees Maverick’s commanding officer outlining the fact that the star pilot should be ranked much higher than he is after all these decades.
However, Maverick’s love of flying, speed and thrills has kept him in the cockpit – and he’s happy to be there.
Throughout the course of this exposition, we’re treated to visuals of Cruise in his fighter jet soaring through the skies, with glimpses of some of the other cast members and scenes from the film.
Top Gun: Maverick does very much seem similarly themed to the first film which doesn’t come as much of a surprise, however, no plot details are still known about the sequel to this date.
Miles Teller and Glen Powell have joined the cast as the new generation of fighter pilots (in what is presumably the same type of role that Cruise and friends had in the original film), so it feels like Maverick will feature somewhat of a passing-of-the-torch sub-plot.
Val Kilmer is back in this one as well, reprising his role as Iceman from the original film, and he’s joined by Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris in supporting roles.
The flight scenes in this trailer look amazing and director Joseph Kosinski will surely be attempting to push some boundaries with them in his latest action film outing.
Check out the awesome first trailer below and see the film in cinemas next year from 6 June 2020.
