Paradise Hills features an impressive female-led ensemble cast with some stunning costume and set design, all with an air of mystery surrounding exactly what is going in this one.
Uma (Emma Roberts) wakes up on an island paradise resort/boarding school where its female residents are taught how to be proper and fit in, in the exact way their environment requires them to.
She’ll soon find out that the idealistic paradise she’s fallen into is harbouring some sinister secrets.
The trailer is careful not to give away any particular plot specifics that may spoil the film for viewers, however, it does a great job in setting an ominous tone.
Aside from that, we’re given a good look at the amazing costuming and set design of the film which looks to be heavily inspired by Victorian Era fashion with an Alice in Wonderland twist.
We also see the film’s principal cast, which alongside Roberts includes Milla Jovovich, Awkwafina, Eiza González and Danielle Macdonald.
It’s hard to make a judgment on the film based on this trailer and it could very well be a case of style over substance, however, the premise, tone and look of the film, with its abundance of fantasy movie elements should do enough to capture the intrigue of its target audience.
The casting is great as well, so it’s definitely one to keep an eye on in 2019.
Paradise Hills is directed by first-time Spanish director Alice Waddington and is due for release on 1 November 2019.
