Guillermo del Toro-Produced ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Trailer Hits

The popular children’s horror book series has been adapted into a feature film by producer Guillermo del Toro and director André Øvredal.

Scary Stories follows a group of small-town teenagers who stumble upon a book of… Scary stories.

These aren’t just any old stories, however, as the book begins to write itself, featuring the teens as characters all of whom are awaiting their demise by some supernatural being.

Alvin Schwartz’ original book series spanned 3 books between 1981 and 1991 and were inspired heavily by urban legends and folklore.

We get that vibe in the trailer for the film as well, and it seems the film may be a series of short stories that may or may not connect to a wider narrative.

The creature design looks great and could make for some horrifying nightmare fuel for younger audiences.

The film looks like your relative mainstream horror fare, but having Guillermo Del Toro behind the scenes certainly adds a bit of intrigue.

Director André Øvredal most recently directed the horror film The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) which was worth a watch but not very memorable overall.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark features a cast of relatively unknown young actors, along with TV’s Breaking Bad star, Dean Norris.

It hits cinemas on 9 August 2019.
