‘The Simpsons Movie’ – Review

One of the most anticipated movies in film history has finally arrived after eighteen years and countless number of episodes on television, pop-culture’s most watched family The Simpsons, have graced our screens in The Simpsons Movie; and it doesn’t disappoint.

After a crisis is brought upon by Homer’s wrongdoings, the Simpsons are chased out of Springfield and are on the run. They re-locate and try to begin a new life, but inevitably are forced back to save their hometown. Lisa falls for a young Irish boy whilst Bart finds console in the unlikely form of Ned Flanders. Homer and Marge’s marriage gets to boiling point as Homer struggles to forgive the townspeople that turned against him.

The Simpsons Movie is a barrel of laughs throughout. It contains humour to appease the most devout of Simpsons followers to first time watchers and contains its regular dose of celebrity cameos. The animation in The Simpsons Movie is superb, shedding a bright and fantastic new vision of the family on the big screen and it is certainly visually impressive.

There are moments in this movie that are excruciatingly funny and unexpected which makes this film even more of a joy to behold. Its one downside is at times its formulaic approach to the narrative, but this is overshadowed by its various layers of humour and can be forgiven.

With so much pressure to please the fans with this long-awaited movie, it is safe to say that the producers have succeeded in delivering a hilarious feature length adventure of the Simpsons, which leaves you walking out of the cinema with a big smile on your face, deciding when to go and watch it again.

Fun Fact:

The script for the voice work was to be kept so secret that the producers personally shredded the script after every voicing session.
