Hollywood powerhouse J.J. Abrams produces the WWII-set action-horror film ‘Overlord’ featuring Nazi zombies and plenty of blood and guts.
U.S. troops infiltrate a small village behind enemy lines on the eve of D-Day when they discover their Nazi foes are experimenting with some supernatural forces to fight them with.
It’s a plot that sounds like it was concocted by a group of 14-year-olds, though it does look like a lot of fun judging by the first trailer.
As mentioned above, there’s plenty of blood, guts and violence in the film, which should make for enjoyable guilty-pleasure viewing.
The film has a stylish aesthetic that appears to work really well with what director Julius Avery is aiming for.
This is Avery’s second film, following 2014’s Son of a Gun starring Ewan McGregor.
J.J. Abrams serves as executive producer on the film, and there was a recent rumour suggesting Overlord was part of the Cloverfield universe, but it was quickly debunked by Abrams.
The film features a relatively unknown cast that includes Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Pilou Asbæk, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro, Wyatt Russell and Bokeem Woodbine.
Overlord is due to hit cinemas on 26 October 2018.
