The famed survival horror video game franchise receives a new movie adaptation with this year’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and it looks faithful to the source material.
Welcome to Raccoon City is an origin story and a reboot of the popular video game movie franchise, which initially kicked off in 2002 with Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil, starring Milla Jovovich.
The new entry follows Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario) and her efforts to uncover the mystery behind the Umbrella Corporation’s turning of the people of Raccoon City into zombies.
Along with a handful of survivors, Redfield investigates the creepy Spencer Mansion while trying to survive against the horrors that lurk within.
The new film takes its visual cues from the groundbreaking 1996 Capcom game, which should please fans of the Resident Evil game series.
All the key characters from that game and its sequel are there, and some familiar-looking zombies, scenes and sets appear.
Video game movies have been notoriously bad but still manage to earn a decent box office take and somewhat of a cult following, as was the case with the six Resident Evil films before this one.
The film stars Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia, Donal Logue, and Neal McDonough, and is due out in cinemas from December 9.
