Featuring an all-star cast and directed by Nash Edgerton, Gringo sees a down-on-his-luck employee get embroiled in a dangerous game with a Mexican drug cartel.
Nearing bankruptcy, Harold (David Oyelowo) is sent on a work-related trip to deliver a newly developed weed-pill to his company’s contacts in Mexico, when he gets mixed up with a powerful drug cartel.
The trailer outlines the tone of the film and it’s going for a comedic vibe, but also one that doesn’t hold back and looks like it will be full of violence (of the humorous type).
Oyelowo comes across as a great fit for this lead character; a type of well-meaning fool at the mercy of his current life situation, and the ruthless executives he works for, played by Charlize Theron and Joel Edgerton.
Also in the cast is the always entertaining Sharlto Copley, Amanda Seyfried and Thandie Newton.
Gringo is only Nash Edgerton’s second feature length film, following on from his 2008 Australian feature debut, The Square, which had a similar vibe to this one.
This film certainly looks promising and appears to have all the elements needed to make for an entertaining romp.
Gringo is produced by Amazon studios and hits cinemas in the US on 9 March 2018.
