Ethan Hawke plays a super creepy villain in the new supernatural horror film The Black Phone from Blumhouse and director Scott Derrickson.
A teenage boy is kidnapped by a notorious child-killer and locked in a dark room with an ominous black phone box attached to the wall.
Derrickson’s new horror film sees a teenage boy kidnapped by a notorious child-killer and locked in a dark room with an ominous black phone box attached to the wall.
The boy receives calls on the phone from the ghosts of the killer’s past victims, who try and help him escape.
The Black Phone looks like a terrifying new horror movie concept and features Ethan Hawke turning in a super creepy performance as the film’s masked villain.
The reason why Hawke wears the mask isn’t explained in the trailer, though early on in it, we see him unmasked, and he looks just as terrifying.
Scott Derrickson has plenty of experience with supernatural horror films, including The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), Sinister (2012), and Deliver Us from Evil (2014), with the success of those films setting him up to direct Marvel’s Doctor Strange (2016).
It looks as though Derrickson had a good time directing this film as there’s plenty of attention to detail to its look and feel with what looks like a dread-filled story, and it should make for a spine-tingling viewing experience.
The Black Phone is due to arrive on the 4th of February 2022.
