Check out the trailer for the Japanese film Shin Godzilla, featuring the titular monster in the first old-school style Godzilla film in over a decade.
Madman Entertainment has announced that Shin Godzilla will be releasing in Australian cinemas from October 13 and you can see where it’s playing and secure tickets from the official site here.
The official synopsis of the film is as follows:
It’s a peaceful day in Japan when a strange fountain of water erupts in the bay, causing panic to spread among government officials. At first, they suspect only volcanic activity, but one young executive dares to wonder if it may be something different… something alive. His worst nightmare comes to life when a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and begins tearing through the city, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake.
As the government scrambles to save the citizens, a rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster’s weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side—the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes.
I haven’t seen any of the classic Godzilla films this new reboot is inspired by, however the trailer below for this film looks fantastic, better than 2014’s English language Godzilla film directed by Gareth Edwards, which I thought fell below par.
Hideaki Anno, the visionary filmmaker behind Evangelion writes and directs this return to the screen for the most recognisable monster in pop-culture history.
IMDB Synopsis:
Japan is plunged into chaos upon the appearance of a giant monster.
