In this second trailer for Slender Man, it’s a little disappointing to say that it looks awfully generic, with silly characters doing silly things.
It’s a reminder of how bad Truth or Dare (2018) was and this film seems to follow a similar path.
It’s a case of ‘who will be killed next down the line’, with predictable jump scares and Google as an easy plot device to solve the mystery of the Slender Man.
It does, however, look wonderfully shot, with some eerie imagery.
This may be the saving grace judging by the trailers we have seen thus far.
It also appears to be aimed primarily at the teen market, which is a shame too because the mythology behind the Slender Man is quite interesting.
With a more grounded and realistic tone, not quite seen in the trailer, this film could have potentially been more like Hereditary (2018) and less like a Scream (1996) movie for a new generation.
The film stars Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Jaz Sinclair, Annalise Basso, and Javier Botet.
It’s directed by Sylvain White and is due out on 23 August 2018.
