Allegiances are Torn Apart in Official Trailer for ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’

maleficent 2 trailer

Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) and Aurora (Elle Fanning) are forced apart when a new Queen enters the picture, causing a rift between the dark fairy and her goddaughter.

Michelle Pfeiffer joins the cast as Queen Ingrith, mother to Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson), the love of Aurora’s life.

Phillip and Aurora are to be wed and their opposing people’s united, though at the Queen’s behest, Maleficent is cast aside as Aurora’s carer in place of the Queen, herself.

Maleficent isn’t too happy about this, however, and the conflict on all sides begins to boil over.

Family conflict seems to be one of the core themes of Mistress of Evil, the sequel to 2014’s Maleficent, which should make for some intriguing viewing.

There’s the obvious high-fantasy element here as well, along with the classic Disney magic and charm, but this film does appear to have a lot of depth.

It features a great cast that should elevate the audience’s investment into the characters, with actors like Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, Ed Skrein, and Chiwetel Ejiofor co-starring alongside Jolie, Fanning and Pfeiffer.

The film is directed by Joachim Rønning, who directed the entertaining Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) as well as the awesome foreign ocean-adventure film Kon-Tiki (2012).

The first Maleficent film received mostly mixed reviews but did very well at the box office, so we’re hoping this sequel can win over the critics this time and beat the box office return of the first film.

It hits cinemas on 18 October 2019, check out the new trailer below.
