The film adaptation of the hit Australian novel Jasper Jones has received a release date, along with a first-look teaser trailer and 5 new images.

Jasper Jones was a 2009 novel by Fremantle, Australia-based author Craig Silvey, which was released to wide acclaim and won numerous awards.

The teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much, but it does introduce us to the film’s main characters, Charlie (Levi Miller) and Jasper (Aaron L. McGrath).

I haven’t read the book, however the teaser does imply a heavy sense of mystery elements (maybe even supernatural?).

The film is directed by Rachel Perkins, whose past directing credits include Bran Nue Dae, Radiance and One Night the Moon, and is produced by Vincent Sheehan (Animal Kingdom, The Hunter) and David Jowsey (Mystery Road, Goldstone).

Jasper Jones features an outstanding Australian cast that includes Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Muriel’s Wedding), Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, The Dressmaker), Levi Miller (Pan, Red Dog: True Blue), Angourie Rice (These Final Hours, The Nice Guys), Dan Wyllie (Offspring, Muriel’s Wedding), Matt Nable (Riddick, Son of a Gun) and Aaron McGrath (GLITCH).

The film is due out in Australian cinemas on 2 March, 2017 and the official synopsis for the film is as follows:

In the dead of night during the scorching summer of 1969, Charlie is startled when he is woken by local mixed-race outcast Jasper Jones outside his window. Jasper leads him deep into the forest and shows him something that will change his life forever, setting them both on a dangerous journey to solve a mystery that will consume the entire community.

Check out the first teaser trailer for the film below, along with the newly released images from the film.
