The stunning, action-filled first trailer for the upcoming Scarlett Johansson sci-fi action film Ghost in the Shell has dropped.
The film, based on a classic Japanese Manga anime features Johansson as a human-cyborg hybrid special-ops officer known as Major, who goes after criminals based in the futuristic world the film is set in.
Whether or not the story holds up, one thing’s for certain is the film looks gorgeous visually, as you’ll see in the first trailer below.
Director Rupert Sanders and team have created a stunning future-world for this film, reminiscent of the type created for Blade Runner (1982) – it was the first thought I had when seeing the cityscapes in the trailer.
Scarlett Johansson is a great actress that should do this role justice, even though there was some whitewashing controversy behind it.
Sanders’ only previous film was 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman, which wasn’t well-received by critics, but it did look great visually (much like Ghost), and the action was on-point.
Ghost in the Shell stars Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbaek, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche and Michael Pitt, and is due out in cinemas on 30 March 2017 in Australia, and similarly around the world.
Check out the cool first trailer below.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
