The new horror film Follow Me combines the mystery and thrills of Escape Room (2017) with the torture porn of Hostel (2005).
A social media celebrity visits Moscow with a group of friends to take part in a mysterious ‘escape room‘ challenge where they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives.
The film from Escape Room director Will Wernick follows a similar plot which sees a group of people play a usually harmless puzzle game that turns deadly.
The difference being that there are sinister people watching and torturing the group for entertainment purposes in this film.
Follow Me is a gritty horror film that really sells the violence and disturbing aspects of the story, and should please fans of torture-porn films like Hostel and the Saw (2003-) series, which recently included 2017’s Jigsaw.
Horror films in this sub genre tend to receive mixed-to-negative reactions from critics but are generally enjoyed by mainstream filmgoers as a thrilling form of escapism, something that makes them feel uncomfortable but they won’t dare look away.
It features a mostly unknown cast which includes Keegan Allen, Holland Roden, Denzel Whitaker, Ronen Rubinstein, and Pasha Lychnikoff.
Follow Me is screening in Australian cinemas now (wherever they’re open).
