If you loved reading as a child (like me) then you no doubt would be familiar with the ever famous ‘Tale of Peter Rabbit’ book, and the array of other children’s books written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter.
In 2018, the lovable Peter Rabbit will make his big screen debut!
Following the premise of the books, the Peter Rabbit movie depicts the adventures of Peter Rabbit and his crew of furry friends as they play around in the garden of Mr. McGregor, who tries desperately to rid his garden of Peter and co.
The film stars Rose Byrne as a fictional depiction of author Beatrix ‘Bea’ Potter, James Corden as the voice of Peter Rabbit, Domhnall Gleeson as Mr. Thomas McGregor and a plethora of Hollywood names such as Daisy Ridley and Margot Robbie as the voices of Peter’s bunny pals.
Interestingly enough, the plot revolves around both Peter and Thomas McGregor vying for the affections of animal lover Bea, who happens to live next door.
Unlike the book, McGregor is seen less as the angry old man trying to exterminate the vermin sneaking into his garden, but more of a relatable character, drawing sympathy from the audience after his tiring and countless ordeals with the mischievous Peter Rabbit.
The movie is a 3D live-action/CGI animated adventure/comedy written, directed and produced by Will Gluck and co-written by Rob Lieber.
It’ll be interesting to see how this timeless classic will be portrayed as a kid’s comedy, and although I am not a huge fan of Corden’s other work in film (i.e 2016’s Trolls and 2017’s The Emoji Movie), I’ll definitely keep my eye out for this movie in the hopes that it doesn’t turn out to be another children’s series that should’ve been left well alone.
The film is set to be released on 22 March 2018 in Australia.
