‘Chasing the Dragon’ – Trailer for New Donnie Yen Martial Arts Crime Drama

chasing the dragon trailer

Asian-film superstars Donnie Yen and Andy Lau star in the upcoming action/crime drama Chasing the Dragon, inspired by true events.

Yen plays the infamous drug kingpin Crippled Ho, who came to Hong Kong in 1963 as a Chinese immigrant and built a criminal empire standing over drug dealers and a corrupt police force, led by the notorious detective Lee Rock (Andy Lau).

The film looks to be a mix of crime drama and martial arts action, told in the form a biographical saga.

We’ve seen this style of storytelling many times in the past, especially in the works of Martin Scorsese, with films like Goodfellas (1990) and Casino (1995).

The difference here is that it looks like there will be some awesome martial arts action and fight choreography thrown into the mix, which is never a bad idea.

Chasing the Dragon features two of the biggest stars in Asian cinema in Donnie Yen and Andy Lau, with Yen recently crossing over into the international mainstream with his performance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016 – see my review here).

Lau also recently appeared in the Chinese/American co-production The Great Wall (2016 – see my review herewhich featured Matt Damon in the lead role.

The film releases across Australian cinemas on 29 September 2017.
