A new trailer has been released for the upcoming blockbuster Ben-Hur, starring Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, Morgan Freeman and Rodrigo Santoro.
The trailer for this film has piqued my interest but let’s remain cautiously optimistic for the time being.
The film looks like an action-packed spectacle with a decent story, however if the filmmakers can’t get the balance right between the two, then it may be an issue with the overall quality of the film.
The film is based on the 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ by Lew Wallace, which was also adapted back in 1959 with the now-classic film of the same name starring Charlton Heston.
Ben-Hur tells the story of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish nobleman who is falsely accused of a crime by childhood friend and adopted brother Messala and is subsequently forced into slavery under Roman rule. After surviving years of slavery, Ben-Hur challenges Messala to a chariot race in order to seek retribution.
The 2016 version is directed by Timur Bekmambetov, whose two most recent wide-release credits include Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Wanted, which were both average at best.
The director may be an iffy choice, but the film does have a great cast, including Jack Huston in the lead role and supported by Morgan Freeman, Toby Kebbell and Rodrigo Santoro.
As long as the film doesn’t bomb critically and commercially, it should be a huge boost for Huston’s career, as the film appears to be his first breakthrough role in a big Hollywood film (he’s been in plenty of films, but is probably best known for his role as Richard Harrow in the HBO TV series Boardwalk Empire).
Ben-Hur is set to be released 25 August 2016 in Australian cinemas.
IMDB Synopsis:
A falsely accused Jewish nobleman survives years of slavery to take vengeance on his Roman best friend, who betrayed him.
