Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau stars in the independent prison-themed crime-thriller Shot Caller, and it looks super-intense.
Films with really intense trailers like this one can often suffer from taking themselves too seriously, and are ultimately unable to meet expectations.
The film looks really good so I can only hope the final product can match the intensity set out in its trailer.
The trailer doesn’t give away too much, however it gives us a quick look at the evolution of Coster-Waldau’s character, starting from an average guy thrown into prison for a crime he accidentally committed, then turning into a prison gangster.
IMDB lists the synopsis for the film as follows:
A newly released prison gangster is forced by the leaders of his gang to orchestrate a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California.
I didn’t quite get that from the trailer, although there are lots of quick cuts from various segments from the movie that don’t reveal a clear narrative.
Either way, the trailer for Shot Caller has got me intrigued.
The film features an impressive cast that along with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau includes Jon Bernthal, Lake Bell, Benjamin Bratt and Holt McCallany.
It’s directed by Ric Roman Waugh and is due to screen at the LA Film Festival on 17 June 2017.
We’ll keep you posted once any more details are announced for a wider release here in Australia and abroad.
