We’ve seen footage of the upcoming anime adaptation of Ghost in the Shell before, however this latest trailer reveals the most about the film’s plot.
Scarlett Johansson plays The Major, a cybernetic police officer in some future version of what appears to be Tokyo.
Based on this new trailer, it appears The Major faces some type of existential crisis while having to hunt down a ruthless killer, and even enemies on her own side once she digs a bit too deep into her past.
The film looks like it’s sticking true to the design aesthetic of the original 1995 animated film of the same name, and it looks stunning.
You’ll see in the trailer below that the filmmakers have built a beautiful futuristic world that’s equal parts mind-blowing and scary.
It looks like there will be some innovative action in this film as well, so that’s the look and entertainment value potentially covered, meaning it may fall on the film’s story to determine its success amongst critics and new fans.
I say new fans, because fans of the original anime should surely be impressed by this, especially if the filmmakers have stuck true to the original’s story.
We’ll find out when Ghost in the Shell hits Australian cinemas on 30 March 2017.
