‘The Mummy’ – Official Trailer for Upcoming Monster Film

The first trailer for The Mummy has been released, the upcoming film in Universal’s newly rebooted Monster film Universe, starring Tom Cruise.

As a big fan of Tom Cruise I’m hoping this one is good, but I have to admit it looks pretty terrible going by this trailer.

Firstly some of the effects looked laughable; some of the delivery by Tom Cruise at the start of that trailer was also pretty bad, and the general feel of the film doesn’t look to offer anything we haven’t seen before.

The Mummy is part of Universal’s reboot of their famous monster film characters that include The Mummy of course, Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf Man and so on, with each character getting their own film in the coming years.

Luke Evans portrayed Dracula in the 2014 film Dracula: Untold, which was meant to kick-off Universal’s Monsters film series, however I’m not sure if that film will fall under that umbrella any more.

That film was surprisingly decent, however The Mummy looks concerning.

Aside from Cruise, the film stars Sofia Boutella (whom you may remember from this year’s Star Trek Beyond as Jaylah) as the film’s mummy, Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson.

It’s directed by Alex Kurtzman and is due for release on 9 June 2017 in the USA.
