‘Life’ – Trailer for New Sci-Fi Thriller Film

thriller

Life stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson in a new sci-fi thriller film that seems to have come out of nowhere.

Life follows the crew of a spaceship that have found the first signs of life on Mars, and is directed by Swedish director Daniel Espinosa.

The trailer gives away the necessary details, in what looks to be a derivative thriller set in space, and it really feels like Hollywood is running out of ideas.

There have been many sci-fi films of this nature in the past, so it makes you wonder where Sony Pictures is going with this one, especially considering it features two major stars in Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal.

What will separate this film from ones that have come before it?

Will it be a run-of-the-mill sci-fi thriller, developed to fill a gap in Sony’s release schedule, or do the filmmakers have something special in store for us?

Espinosa is well versed in directing thrillers, with his last two efforts being Child 44 (2015) and Safe House (2012), so at least we have that.

Life is due out on 26 May 2017 and while the new trailer hasn’t instilled a lot of confidence in me for this one, it’s probably best to reserve judgement until we get to see some more footage from the film.

The official synopsis for the film is as follows:

Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.
