A Young Boy Has an Imaginary Friend in Hitler in Trailer for ‘Jojo Rabbit’

Taika Waititi writes, directs and plays the imaginary Hitler in his WWII parody, Jojo Rabbit; a movie that’s equal parts inventive and quirky.

Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) is a confused boy in Nazi Germany, trying to make sense of the world as a member of the junior Nazi party.

His imaginary friend, Hitler (Waititi), guides him on the path of right and wrong in those tumultuous times, as Jojo befriends a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) that his mother (Scarlett Johansson) has been hiding in their family home.

Jojo Rabbit is a quirky, coming-of-age satire set during WWII that features Nazis as the film’s protagonists.

It’s a different viewpoint from what we’re generally used to seeing from films based in this era and it makes for some comedy gold, some of which we can see in the trailer.

The Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) director appears to be in top form here, as the trailer hits all the right notes of what should be a funny, heartwarming film.

There’s also an element of fantasy to this film just to mix things up a bit.

Jojo Rabbit features an impressive supporting cast that includes Sam Rockwell, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant and Alfie Allen.

Expect it in cinemas on 18 October 2019.
