The new trailer for the animated musical film UglyDolls has been recently released.
Based on an existing toy line from the early 2000’s, the film tells the story of a group of dolls from Uglyville, that is described in the trailer as a place where ‘strange is special and beauty is more than meets the eye’, finding themselves in the town of Perfection that is filled with insecure humans.
The film is animated vividly in colour (resemblant of 2016’s Trolls) and does not shy away from the fact it is a full-blown musical with the trailer being told entirely through song.
Musicians round out the majority of the cast, including Kelly Clarkson (heard predominantly in the trailer), Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Charlie XCX, Blake Shelton and Mr Worldwide himself, Pitbull.
Issues relating to body positivity are key to the story of the film with each of the UglyDolls peculiarities being what is celebrated the most in the town of Uglyville.
The film comes for STX Entertainment who is known for other properties such as The Edge of Seventeen (2016), Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) and the Bad Moms (2016-) franchise of films.
UglyDolls will find their way into cinemas on 10 May 2019.
