Brie Larson promised ‘internet breaking’ news regarding her upcoming Marvel Studios film, Captain Marvel, and Entertainment Weekly delivered.
The outlet has released the first images of Larson as Captain Marvel, which you can check out below.
The new pics not only give us our first look at the character but preview Marvel’s first ever female-led movie.
The film, aptly titled Captain Marvel, follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
Set in the 1990’s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“She can’t help but be herself,” Larson told EW about her kick-ass new character.
“She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face.
She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders.
But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.”
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the film co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Annette Bening, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace and Clark Gregg.
Captain Marvel is slated for release next year on International Women’s Day (aka. 8 March 2019).
