From Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins comes the teaser trailer for his follow-up to the Oscar-winning film Moonlight (2016) – If Beale Street Could Talk.

Set in mid-70’s Harlem, the film follows the couple Tish (Kiki Layne) and Fonny (Stephen James), whose world is turned upside down when Fonny is accused of rape.

Pregnant with his child, Tish and her family race against the clock to find evidence to clear Fonny’s name before the baby is born.

The film is based on the 1974 novel of the same name by James Baldwin.

The first teaser doesn’t place much emphasis on the plot but rather chooses to focus on the film’s atmospheric quality.

We only get to see short snippets of footage, as well as plenty of shots of the faces featured in the film.

The tone Barry Jenkins is aiming for seems to be similar to that of his highly regarded film Moonlight, that being a highly dramatic, visceral experience.

Moonlight won multiple Oscars and put Jenkins on the map as a new director to watch out for.

Based on the small amount we can see from If Beale Street Could Talk, it looks like the director is on track with another Oscar contender.

The film stars Kiki Layne, Stephan James, Colman Domingo, Teyonah Parris, Michael Beach, Dave Franco, Diego Luna, Pedro Pascal, Ed Skrein, Brian Tyree Henry and Regina King.

It’s due out in cinemas on 30 November 2018, check out the first teaser below.
