The heartbreaking trailer for Focus Features’ upcoming drama Boy Erased starring Nicole Kidman, Lucas Hedges and Joel Edgerton has been released.
Hedges plays a small-town American teenager who is sent to gay conversion therapy by his parents, played by Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.
Writer/director Joel Edgerton also has an on-screen role in the film which he adapted from Garrard Conley’s book Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family.
Boy Erased tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19.
Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith.
Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.
Cherry Jones, Michael “Flea” Balzary, Xavier Dolan, Joe Alwyn, Emily Hinkler, Jesse LaTourette, David Joseph Craig, Théodore Pellerin, Madelyn Cline, and Britton Sear co-star in the film along with Troye Sivan, whose song Revelation is featured in the trailer.
Tipped as an Oscars contender, Boy Erased is slated for release on 2 November 2018.
