Disney+ recently launched their new general entertainment brand, Star, with hundreds of new titles arriving on the streaming platform.

The adult-focused Star platform offers access to popular film series’ like the Alien (1979) franchise and the modern Planet of the Apes films, amongst hundreds of other loved titles.

While there are countless titles that audiences have come to grow and love over the years, now available on Star, there are still plenty of films that may have been missed by mainstream crowds.

We’ve compiled a list of 10 excellent films you may have missed to watch now on the Disney+ Star platform, available in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Canada, and Singapore*.

Sound of My Voice (2011)

A slow-burning drama that sees two documentary filmmakers infiltrate a secretive cult to expose their mysterious leader, Maggie (Brit Marling), who claims to be from the future.

Sound of My Voice marks Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling’s first collaboration as director and star before moving on to The East (2013) and the popular Netflix series The OA (2016-19).

The film requires some patience but is worthwhile for hitting all the right mystery, intrigue, and creepiness levels.

Hidden Figures (2016)

Based on a remarkable true story, Hidden Figures follows the true story of a trio of African-American female mathematicians who played a pivotal part in the NASA space program’s success in the early 1960s.

Featuring outstanding performances from Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe, Hidden Figures showcases the struggles the women had to face in becoming vital members of the program in a highly entertaining package.

I Heart Huckabees (2004)

One of acclaimed director David O. Russell’s less-mainstream films, I Heart Huckabees, features an all-star cast and is about a husband-and-wife team who play detectives trying to solve people’s existential crises.

The film is dialogue-heavy with themes that will require your full attention and features a continually moving pace, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)

Another cult-focused film, Martha Marcy May Marlene, follows a woman (Elizabeth Olsen) who struggles to assimilate back into society after fleeing an abusive hippie-like cult.

Before joining the Marvel fold and now having her own show in WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen starred in this bleak, psychological indie drama film.

It was evident by her performance that Olsen would go on to become a superstar.

Morgan (2016)

Morgan is a sci-fi horror film that stars Kate Mara as a corporate consultant who must decide whether to terminate the life of a super-powerful and potentially deadly artificial humanoid, played by Anya Taylor-Joy.

A sci-fi horror film that questions its protagonist’s morality while she fights for her life, Morgan is an underrated film that also finds a star in the making in Anya Taylor-Joy.

Stoker (2013)

Following her father’s tragic death, a young woman suspects things aren’t all they appear to be when her mysterious uncle comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother.

The first English-langue film from Korean auteur, Chan-wook Park, Stoker is an unsettling thriller featuring an excellent cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, and Matthew Goode.

Joy (2015)

Another David O. Russell entry, Joy, stars Jennifer Lawrence as an entrepreneurial woman who goes from selling products on the home-shopping channel to becoming the founder of a robust family business.

A film that was mostly shunned by the critics, Joy deserves more recognition.

Featuring a stellar cast with excellent performances and an inspirational story, Joy is a must-watch for Jennifer Lawrence fans.
