‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Looks Like Good Super-Antihero Fun

The first trailer for the anticipated sequel film Venom: Let There Be Carnage has dropped and sees Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom humorously co-existing.

Tom Hardy reprises his role as the Marvel antihero Venom in this upcoming sequel, and this time around, he faces his most dangerous test yet in the symbiote supervillain, Carnage (Woody Harrelson).

Harrelson plays violent criminal Cletus Kasady, who, while being executed in prison for his crimes, appears to be injected with the same alien symbiote as Eddie Brock and turns into the red-coloured and deadly, Carnage.

Carnage escapes from prison, seeks out Venom, and all hell breaks loose.

We get a good, complete look at Harrelson in character as the villain, who ultimately looks like a more menacing version of the film’s hero.

Interestingly, we also see how far the symbiotic relationship between Venom and Eddie Brock has come, and it’s hilarious.

The opening breakfast scene and subsequent interaction between Brock, Venom and the shopkeeper features funny writing, showing that this film won’t take itself seriously, which is a good thing.

The first Venom film from 2018 also didn’t take itself seriously and was entertaining enough, but it didn’t bring anything new or exciting to the superhero movie genre.

It’s hard to judge how the sequel may hold up based on the minimal details we’re given in this first trailer, but the addition of Harrelson is a nice touch, and the humour seems to work.

Check out Venom: Let There Be Carnage in cinemas from 16 September 2021.
