‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ – Teaser Trailer

valerian and the city of a thousand planets

The anticipated first teaser trailer for Luc Besson’s upcoming sci-fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has dropped.

The first thing you’ll notice in this teaser trailer is all the colour! The vibrancy of this film may be one of its biggest selling points, in that it looks gorgeous and will probably be best experienced on a big cinema screen.

We don’t get much by way of plot in this teaser, however as it’s based on a graphic novel, we know that it follows Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne); two government officers on an intergalactic mission.

The trailer does however give us a brief look at the hugely diverse alien life that will be featured in the film, some of them more convincing than others when it comes to the special effects.

It’s always risky bringing a new intellectual property such as this to the masses (John Carter is a perfect example), however Luc Besson does have the potential to do it.

While his films have mostly been a mixed bag, he’s always offered us fun films at the bare minimum.

The film is directed by Besson and features an impressive cast that includes Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, Rihanna and Rutger Hauer.

Check out the first teaser below before the film hits cinemas in July of 2017, and we’ll post the full length trailer for the film once it’s released.

The official synopsis of the film is as follows:

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories, charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner – blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But Laureline continuously rebuffs him. Under a directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all over the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time, uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing all races in great danger.
