Check out the new trailer for the upcoming Hugh Jackman film The Front Runner, which looks to be some of the actor’s best work yet.
Based on the untold true story, Jackman plays presidential candidate Gary Hart, who in 1988 was on the cusp of going all the way until his campaign was derailed after being embroiled in a sex scandal.
The ‘front-runner’ for President at the time stole the heart of the people but was soon brought back down to earth after tabloid journalists got a hold of the news of his extramarital affairs.
The plot is well highlighted in the new trailer, first revealing Jackman’s Hart as a standup American Senator, loved by one and all.
We then see things go south when it’s revealed he’s had an affair outside of marriage, essentially destroying his wholesome look as well as his presidential run.
Jackman’s wide range of acting abilities is also on full display, and it looks like this role could feature him in the upcoming awards season.
The Front Runner is based on the book ‘All the Truth is Out’ by Matt Bai and is directed by Jason Reitman.
Reitman has an amazing back catalogue of films to his credit, including this year’s Tully, 2009’s Up in the Air and 2007’s Juno.
The film features an impressive supporting cast that includes Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons, Alfred Molina, Bill Burr and Sara Paxton.
Check it out in cinemas from 24 January 2019.
