Everyone’s Favourite Transformer Bumblebee Gets His Own Film – Teaser

The fan favourite Transformer Bumblebee gets his own solo film, in this upcoming Transformers spinoff that features Hailee Steinfeld in the lead, alongside the yellow robot in disguise.

Bumblebee is set approximately 20 years before the events of the first Transformers (2007) film when a teenage girl named Charlie Watson (Steinfeld) finds the titular robot hiding in a Californian beach town’s junkyard.

The two become best buddies, while at the same time being hunted by a government agency known as Sector Seven, led by agent Burns (John Cena), as well as some Decepticon baddies.

It’s basically the same plot as 2007’s Transformers, set in an earlier time period with a different Autobot taking centre stage.

The tone, however, judging by the first teaser trailer below appears to be different; Bumblebee comes across as a light-hearted, teen-friendship movie, similar to the likes of The Iron Giant (1999).

Bumblebee is in his classic Volkswagen Beetle form in this film, giving the robot a cutesy, friendly look, which is achieved well by the film’s designers.

The film is sure to be action-packed and the film looks like it has some heartwarming elements, which is a welcome change to what we’ve been getting from Michael Bay and his recent Transformers films.

The film is directed by Travis Knight, whose debut film Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) was a hit, so the film is in capable hands.

Bumblebee could very well be a return to form for the popular franchise (some would argue it never had form), and we’ll find out when it releases on 21 December 2018.
