Trailer for Upcoming Horror Film – ‘The Strangers: Prey at Night’

The sequel to the 2008 fan-favourite home-invasion film The Strangers, The Strangers: Prey at Night gets its first trailer, set to a cool 80’s pop song that works surprisingly well in conjunction with the film’s terrifying themes.

Prey at Night follows the story of a family terrorised by a group of three masked assailants at a remote trailer park.

The film falls under a common sub-genre of horror in that of a home-invasion film, which has been done to death, so what separates this from all the others that have come before it?

I can only imagine it’s the style the filmmakers are going for, as conveyed in the film’s first pop-centric trailer.

Horror films that throw back to the 80’s with their use of music, setting, cinematic look and funky typography also aren’t new (see 2009’s The House of the Devil and 2014’s The Guest for some great examples), however they’re always a welcome treat for fans.

There’s something special about films that aim for that style, something that resonates with audiences, especially horror-film audiences.

The movie could be terrible, but fans will still head out to see it just to enjoy something that looks and feels slightly different to what they’re used to.

The Strangers: Prey at Night looks like a fairly typical, uninspired horror, however the style outlined in the trailer has certainly made me want to see it.

It’s directed by Johannes Roberts and stars Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson, Bailee Madison and Lewis Pullman.

The film is due out in cinemas on 9 March 2018 in the USA.
