The super-popular Minions are back in the prequel film, Minions: The Rise of Gru, and it looks like a hilarious new addition to the smash-hit franchise.
Set in the 1970s, The Rise of Gru follows the story of a young Gru (Steve Carell), who has ambitions of joining the supervillain group known as the Vicious 6.
When he’s laughed off the stage at the job interview, he decides to steal a precious stone from the 6, who then set out to capture him and regain their property.
With the help of his loyal followers the Minions, Gru escapes and his wacky life of villainy begins.
This new animated film from Illumination and Universal Pictures looks like a blast if this first trailer is anything to go by.
All of the humor and charm we’ve come to expect from these films, which began with 2010’s Despicable Me is here, so this will no doubt be a huge success.
Joining Carell in the voice cast is Taraji P. Henson, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Michelle Yeoh, Russell Brand, Alan Arkin, and Julie Andrews.
Minions: The Rise of Gru is due to arrive in theatres on 18 June 2020.
