Ten years after the first Mamma Mia! film was released, we get its sequel with a returning cast and some new faces, along with all the Abba music you loved from before.
Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is pregnant, and is in a crisis of sorts wondering what it takes to raise a baby.
To find out, the film will take viewers way back to the origin story of Sophie’s mother Donna (Meryl Streep, and Lily James as the young Donna), as we see what made her the woman she is today, and how her experiences will help to shape Sophie’s life moving forward.
And of course, there are Abba hits thrown in all throughout this charming film.
The original 2008 film grossed over $600 million worldwide, and its sequel will likely follow suit if the first trailer is anything to go by.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again features the same type of humour and charm from the first film; one that anyone can enjoy (even if they secretly don’t admit it).
Sure, the film is cheesy as anything, but it promises a good time – the first one delivered, and it seems like the second one will too.
Plus, who doesn’t like the music of Abba?
The band has a phenomenal fan base around the world, helping the film’s appeal, and it’s no surprise that same appeal aided the first film in making so much money at the box office.
The film is directed by Ol Parker and features Meryl Streep reprising her role as Donna, Julie Walters as Rosie and Christine Baranski as Tanya.
Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper are back in their roles as Sophie and Sky, and Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Colin Firth return to play Sophie’s three possible dads – Sam, Bill and Harry.
Check out the first trailer below, before Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again hits cinemas on 20 July 2018.
