Trailer for New Indie Coming-of-Age Teen Movie ‘Eighth Grade’

The coming-of-age US indie darling from comedian Bo Burnham and starring rising talent Elsie Fisher, Eighth Grade, gets an Australian release date.

Eighth Grade tells the story Kayla (Fisher), an introverted teen trying to survive her final week of school before moving on to high-school.

Kayla, like many other teens with introverted tendencies, must face the pressures that come with that period of their lives, including a move into womanhood, social and peer pressures in the online landscape, and family dramas that come with this confusing time in their lives.

The film looks to cover all the insecurities that modern teens have to face, with a dramatic and somewhat comedic tone.

Judging by the trailer, director Bo Burnham appears to have crafted a heartwarming coming-of-age drama film about one girl’s time in her life where everything seems unclear.

Modern teens will surely be able to relate to the story, while its larger themes should resonate with all audiences.

The film was a success on the indie movie festival circuit throughout 2018, currently holding a score of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Eighth Grade hits select Australian cinemas from 3 January 2019.
