Gory Trailer for Upcoming Takashi Miike Film – ‘Blade of the Immortal’

blade of the immortal trailer

Takashi Miike’s 100th film Blade of the Immortal is a bloody, stylistic adaptation of an early 90’s Japanese Manga series, that looks to deliver the goods.

The film follows Manji (Takuya Kimura), a highly skilled, immortal samurai, who fights evil as a way to reclaim his soul after being haunted by the murder of his sister.

Manji agrees to help a young girl named Rin (Hana Sugisaki) avenge the death of her parents at the hands of a group of master swordsman, led by the ruthless warrior Anotsu (Sota Fukushi).

It sounds like fairly basic revenge-movie stuff, though stories like these often work well if the execution hits the mark.

From the trailer, it looks as though Miike has developed a film with some outstanding production values, with his signature style of violent, over-the-top action.

The acclaimed Japanese director celebrate’s his 100th film, after having directed some cult-classics like 13 Assassins (2010), Audition (1999), Ichi the Killer (2001), and Three… Extremes (2004).

It’s worth seeing this film just to see what 100 films of experience can get a viewer in terms of entertainment value.

But mostly, the film simply looks like it will be a lot of fun… A lot of gory fun.

Blade of the Immortal is due out in American cinemas on 3 November 2017.
