The reboot for the film series Tomb Raider, based on the popular video-game franchise and starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander has received a release date.
It was announced that the new Tomb Raider film will be released on March 16, 2018.
Not much is known about the movie as yet, except that it will follow a young Lara Croft on her first archaeological expedition, which means – an origin story.
When this comes out it would have been 15 years since the last Tomb Raider film came out starring Angelina Jolie, which actually sounds like a generous amount of time between reboots these days.
The first two Tomb Raider films received a pretty poor reception when they came out back in 2001 and 2003, so we’re hoping the filmmakers can come up with something better for the reboot.
The film will be directed by Norwegian director Roar Uthaug which is interesting as he may bring a European touch to the film, as long as the studio permits it.
Alicia Vikander who won the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role Oscar for The Danish Girl will play Lara Croft, the heroine of the series.
She can next be seen in Jason Bourne (out 28 July in Australian cinemas) and The Light Between Oceans, which is due closer to the end of the year.
