The classic novel The Secret Garden has been adapted for a modern audience by director Marc Munden in the upcoming film of the same name.

After her parents are killed, a young girl (newcomer Dixie Egerickx) becomes an orphan and is sent to England to live at her uncle’s estate.

There she befriends a sickly boy (Edan Hayhurst) and the pair set out to uncover the mysteries of a magical garden they stumble across.

The film is based on the 1911 book by author Frances Hodgson Burnett, which has gone on to become a classic piece of literature.

It’s been adapted to the screen and stage many times, the last on film being in 1993 by director Agnieszka Holland.

Featuring a thematically-heavy story, The Secret Garden is an inspirational, dramatic fantasy film with a timeless tale that all audiences can relate to.

The trailer focuses heavily on the visual impact of the film, which looks stunning.

The film’s tone is uplifting, though we can tell it will also be an emotional rollercoaster ride.

The Secret Garden co-stars Colin Firth and Julie Walters and is due out in cinemas on 9 April 2020.
