The terrifying new trailer for Nia DaCosta’s Candyman reboot has dropped, promising to scare the life out of modern audiences.
Anthony (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his partner move into an apartment block in a recently gentrified Chicago area when they learn about the horrific Candyman legend.
Anthony, an artist, uses the legend as inspiration for his paintings and summons the Candyman, beginning a devastating wave of violence as he struggles to keep his sanity in check.
The film is produced by modern horror movie legend Jordan Peele and is directed by relative newcomer Nia DaCosta.
Candyman looks terrifying, as its protagonist, played by rising star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II begins to lose his mind while dealing with the looming threat of the titular supernatural monster.
The film looks superbly shot and features plenty of violence and supernatural themes while paying attention to societal and socio-economic subtexts.
The original Candyman (1992) was scary and violent with many social commentaries, and DaCosta and Peele are looking to pay tribute by keeping the same themes going.
Peele has become synonymous with modern horror after breaking out significantly with Get Out (2017) and Us (2019) and can seemingly do no wrong at this stage of his career.
Candyman seems to have everything going for it behind the scenes, and this latest trailer should get fans excited for its release on 26 August 2021.
