The second trailer for master director Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood highlights the opposing career trajectories of former Western legend Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) and rising starlet Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie).
Dalton, now a washed-up star, is struggling to remember his lines as he realises his career is coming to an inglorious end, telling best friend and stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), “It’s official, old buddy. I’m a has-been.”
On the flipside, Tate is just beginning to ascend the Hollywood tree, unaware of the horror she’s soon to encounter at the hands of the Manson family.
While this slick trailer is relatively similar to the previous one, it does include new footage revealing a greater glimpse of Charles Manson’s (Aussie Damon Herriman) compound and his followers, including Girls actress Lena Dunham.
Tarantino’s really captured the vibe of the 60s in a story producers have continually stated isn’t about the Manson Family murders, but a film focusing on the real people, such as Tate, and how Manson came into their lives.
As is the case with most Tarantino films, the extended cast is incredible, with Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russel, Emile Hirsch, Damian Lewis, Clifton Collins Jr., Michael Masden, Bruce Dern and the late, great Luke Perry all appearing.
Tarantino’s ninth film will be in cinemas 15 August 2019.
