Director Jay Chandrasekhar announced the news on Twitter today that filming has officially begun on the long anticipated sequel to 2001’s Super Troopers.
That film went on to become a cult classic and fifteen years later, we’re lucky enough to get a sequel, but only after the team at Broken Lizard (the comedy troupe behind the films) started a successful crowd-funding campaign to get the film made.
The group consists of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, who have all collaborated (and usually star alongside each other) on hilarious comedy films that have included Super Troopers, Beer Fest, Club Dread and The Babymakers.
For anyone that hasn’t seen their films or heard of the group, their humour consists mostly of sarcastic, gross-out and generally silly comedy, in the same vain as films like the National Lampoons comedies of back in the day.
Chandrasekhar broke the news on Twitter today that filming had begun, with his tweet and photo which you can see below.
The film stars all the actors mentioned above, as well as Brian Cox, and IMDB lists the film as having a release date of some time in 2016.
As the year is almost over though, it’s hard to imagine Super Troopers 2 will be available before the year’s out, but you never know.
Check out a funny clip from the first movie below as well as the director’s tweet confirming the news.
