It’s been confirmed that M. Night Shyamalan’s popular film Split (2016) will get a sequel, titled Glass – SPOILERS ahead.
Jumping straight into spoiler territory now, anyone that’s seen Split knows that Shyamalan set up a shared universe between the characters featured in Split, as well as the characters in his film Unbreakable (2000).
Unbreakable quickly became a bit of a cult-classic after its release, so it was a nice surprise to see that the two films are now connected.
Furthermore, Shyamalan announced that his upcoming film Glass will be a sequel to both Unbreakable and Split.
He also went on to confirm that Bruce Willis will return as the character David Dunn, and Samuel L. Jackson will also return as Elijah Price/Mr. Glass.
James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy are also set to reprise their Split roles.
It seems as though Shyamalan is on a bit of a career resurgence after producing so many flops in a row.
Both Split and his film before that, The Visit (2015), were both well received.
It’s good to see him come back in a strong fashion, as he was once considered one of the best up-and-coming talents to emerge out of Hollywood, until The Village (2004) came out, and everything after that was practically a disaster.
Glass will be released by Universal Pictures on 18 January 2019 and the early synopsis of the film is as follows:
Following the conclusion of SPLIT, GLASS finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.
Are people happy to see Shyamalan build this shared universe, or do you think he should stick to producing original content?
