John David Washington and Adam Driver stars in Spike Lee’s latest film ‘BlacKkKlansman’, featuring a true story that needs to be seen to be believed.
Based in the late 70’s amongst highly charged racial tensions in the United States, the film tells the story of Ron Stallworth (John David Washington), an African-American police officer who successfully infiltrates the local Ku Klux Klan and goes on to lead their local chapter.
How is that possible you may be wondering, considering the KKK preach hatred to anyone other than pure-blooded white Americans?
Well, with the assistance of fellow police officer Flip (Adam Driver), who goes undercover as the face of Ron Stallworth, while the real Ron pulls the strings from afar.
It’s an intriguing tale, made more so by the fact that it’s based on a true story.
BlacKkKlansman was adapted from the 2014 novel ‘Black Klansman’ by Ron Stallworth and seems a fitting topic for acclaimed director Spike Lee’s latest film.
Lee not one to shy away from culturally significant events and era’s surrounding the African-American community, with past films including Do the Right Thing (1989), Malcolm X (1992) and She’s Gotta Have It (1986), amongst others.
The film’s first trailer outlines the plot, as well as the crime-comedy style it’s going for, which seems to work well and should make for some entertaining viewing.
Laura Harrier and Topher Grace co-star, and Jordan Peele of Get Out (2017) fame serves as one of the producers.
BlacKkKlansman premieres at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, with a wider release set for 10 August 2018 in the States.
