Sandra Bullock may have put in some of her best work as a convicted felon in the hard drama film The Unforgivable.
Bullock plays Ruth Slater, a convicted violent criminal who has recently been released from prison after serving time for killing a police officer.
Now out, she’s looking to redeem her past sins and reconnect with her estranged daughter.
The world around her, however, will not let her move on so easily.
Sandra Bullock has brought her A-game for The Unforgiven in a role that’s unlike anything she’s played before.
Thematically, the film is super-heavy and asks a lot of questions for the viewer to ponder.
Would you forgive a ruthless killer who may have been rehabilitated?
That’s just one of the questions the film asks, and while it tries to be empathetic to the character’s plight, it never seems to let you forget her crimes.
Bullock is joined by an all-star cast including Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Rob Morgan and Viola Davis.
The film is directed by Nora Fingscheidt, who makes her English language directorial debut here.
The Unforgivable looks like a tough watch, but one that’s sure to stick with you long after you’ve seen it, which is always a good thing.
See it on Netflix from December 10, 2022.
