Can the reunion of Arnold Schwarzenegger and producer James Cameron reinvigorate the Terminator franchise?
The first trailer for Deadpool (2016) director Tim Miller’s Terminator: Dark Fate has dropped, and boy oh boy am I excited.
Forgetting the past three films exist, Dark Fate takes place 27 years after Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), focusing on a new type of Terminator sent from the future to take out a young woman by the name Dani Ramos.
The trailer doesn’t elaborate much on the plot, but we do see Gabriel Luna’s new liquid-metal Terminator (a hybrid of the original T-800 and the liquid-metal T-1000 that can split in two), as he tries to take out Natalia Reyes’ Ramos during a hectic car chase.
Mackenzie Davis takes the protector role as the mysterious soldier Grace (who isn’t entirely human), as she tries to stop this new model Terminator from completing its assassination mission.
The big selling point for me is the return of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, who we first glimpse taking on the Terminator with a rocket launcher.
A CGI-altered Arnold Schwarzenegger also pops up in what looks like being a small yet undefined role.
It’s hard to know what to expect, but with producer James Cameron back behind the scenes and contributing to the story, and both Hamilton and Arnie returning, I’ve high hopes this film might finally deliver the first decent Terminator film in almost three decades.
Terminator: Dark Fate will be in cinemas from 31 October 2019.
