Nic Cage Features in Outlandish ‘Prisoners of the Ghostland’ Trailer

Prisoners of the Ghostland trailer

Nicolas Cage stars in what looks like one of the most ridiculously-good films of his career in Prisoners of the Ghostland.

Set in a dangerous town known as Samurai City, Cage plays a notorious bank robber sprung out of jail by a wealthy warlord known as The Governor (Bill Moseley).

His task: to find The Governor’s missing granddaughter (Sofia Boutella) within five days or be remotely blown to smithereens (Suicide Squad style).

So he sets off through the post-apocalyptic wasteland in search of the missing woman, encountering a plethora of colourful characters along the way.

The film comes from the same studio that brought us two other recent Nic Cage cult classics in Mandy (2018) and Color Out of Space (2019) and looks to expand on its hallucinogenic, outlandish style.

Prisoners of the Ghostland looks whacky, and as long as it doesn’t take itself too seriously, then Cage fans should be in for a treat.

The film’s production design is top-notch for what is essentially a low-budget film, with well-thought-out sets and costume design, making for a super-peculiar world.

The story seems pretty straightforward and the acting over-the-top, and it’s the type of film that will only draw a niche crowd; however, anyone looking for something out of the norm should check this out.

Prisoners of the Ghostland is in US theatres, on-demand and digital HD from 17 September 2021.
