Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus star in the upcoming dramedy Downhill – a remake of the excellent 2014 swiss film, Force Majeure.
The film follows a family on a ski vacation in the Alps when an avalanche hits, sending the husband (Ferrell) running for his life while his wife (Louis-Dreyfus) stays behind to protect their kids.
The event causes a rift between the couple, forcing them to reevaluate their relationship.
If Downhill can keep the same tone as Force Majeure, then audiences are in for an awkward ride.
The quarrel at the center of the film is one that will open up a lot of questions for the audience to debate after seeing the film, and it’s a fun debate to have.
Everyone would like to say they would be willing to brave an avalanche to protect their family (like Louis-Dreyfus’ character) in theory, but when faced with the reality of such an event, would they perhaps run to save their own lives instead (like Ferrell’s character)?
That’s just one question the film poses and the consequences of Ferrell’s character’s actions make for some entertaining moral dilemmas after the fact.
Nat Saxon and Jim Rash are at the helm on this one, the pair also directing the dramedy film The Way Way Back in 2013.
With a great comedic cast and an intriguing premise, Downhill is a must-see film.
It releases on 5 March 2020.
